I've programmed a few navigation commands involving various combinations of modifiers and characters and would require you to let go of the mouse. I just opened the preferences pane, and it was right back again. As for stability and reliability, JiTouch has gone offline unintentionally about 3 or 4 times since I've had it. There's nothing else like it. Your technique on the Trackpad DEFINITELY will improve within a few days to the point that you don't have to think so hard about it. I suggest using as many of the regular gestures as possible and saving the characters for memes that just suggest themselves. They don't have to be perfect, just enough that it recognizes them. I use my index finger and ring finger, like a major third on piano, to draw the characters. Characters have to be a little more centered, because your fingers have to be spaced just right. You have to commit for at least a week, maybe a month.
